How to Take Care of Your Fresh Cut Flowers

Here at Floral Expressions we want you to enjoy the full length of your cut flowers. So here are some helpful hints on how to care for those beautiful flowers.

1. Clean the water in the vase.  A clean vase helps keep the bacteria down that clogs the pores of the stems.
2. Hold the arrangements together and clip the ends of the stems again to give the flowers a fresh cut.

If you have roses it is best to cut the stems under water. You can do this 2 ways either fill your sink with a little water and cut under the water or run the water and cut the stems under the running water.  Cutting under water allows the stems to take up water before air. It will also close the stem up with a water bubble rather than getting air trapped inside the stem keeping the flower from taking up water.

If your roses have wilted you might be able to bring them back by submerging the whole flower head and all under water and cutting the stem under water.  Leave the flower under water for an hour or even overnight. It should rehydrate.
